Fockea edulis, commonly known as Hottentot Bread, is a fascinating and unique succulent native to southern Africa.

Growth Habit: Fockea edulis features a large, tuberous root system that typically grows above ground and can become quite massive with age, sometimes exceeding several feet in diameter.

Leaf Characteristics: The leaves of Fockea edulis are small, oval to lance-shaped, and have a slightly succulent texture.

Ornamental Plant: Despite its somewhat unconventional appearance, Fockea edulis is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and containers, especially appealing for its sculptural root.

Drought Tolerance: This plant is extremely drought-tolerant, capable of surviving long periods without water thanks to its large tuber, which stores moisture and nutrients.

Low Maintenance: Requires minimal care once established, needing only occasional watering and feeding.
