Opuntia ficus-indica, commonly known as the Indian fig opuntia, barbary fig, or prickly pear, is a species of cactus that has long been a domesticated crop plant grown in agricultural economies throughout arid and semiarid parts of the world. It is native to Mexico and Central America, but has been naturalized in many other regions, including the Mediterranean, Africa, Australia, and parts of Asia.
