Sempervivum, commonly known as "Hens and Chicks," is a genus of succulent plants that are beloved for their durability, unique rosette shapes, and the ease with which they can be grown.

Growth Habit: Sempervivum forms dense mats of rosettes that can vary significantly in color, from greens and reds to almost black.

Leaf Characteristics: The leaves of Sempervivum are thick and fleshy, adapted to store water. They are typically tightly packed into rosettes that can range from about an inch to several inches in diameter.

Rock Gardens: Ideal for rock gardens due to their ability to grow in poor soils and their compact growth habit.

Ground Cover: Excellent for use as ground cover, especially in sunny, dry areas where other plants might struggle.

Container Gardening: Because of their attractive shapes and minimal soil requirements, they are popular in container arrangements, often used in creatively designed succulent planters.

Drought Tolerance: Extremely drought-resistant, making them ideal for xeriscaping and low-water gardens.

Low Maintenance: Require very little care once established; they do not need frequent watering or fertilizing.
